We are still busy replacing windows on our house, but I got the last ones installed yesterday so only have trim and painting left to complete the project:) I did want to share some of the pics from our Glass Butte trip.

Labradorite and Sterling Silver Pendant

We have been busy with all the craziness of summertime.  Took a short vacation and visited central Oregon and spent one day at the Glass Buttes.  The obsidian there is out of this world and a little overwelming of how much variety and quantity is there.  Once we got back, we have been busy replacing windows on our house so been difficult to squeeze in some studio time.  Robin had a great day and created a beautiful labradorite and sterling silver pendant, link to her shop below the picture.

Modifying A Ball Pene Hammer To A Raising Hammer

I modified an old ball peen hammer.

To make the hammer, I marked guide lines on the sides with a sharpie, then ground down the top and bottom to the lines using a 6" bench grinder with 60 grit wheel.  I dipped the steel into a bowl of water often to keep the steel from getting hot and destroying the temper of the steel.  Once it was roughed out I used a finer grinding wheel to smooth the surfaces and refine the shape.  I then used a file to blend and final shape the head.  I used an orbital sander and sanded the piece to a uniform finish using 60 grit paper.  I then hand sanded with 100, 150, 220, 320, 400 sand papers to get the head nice and smooth.  I then polished to finish the hammer.

Sterling Silver Turquoise and Garnet Pendant

Robin's most recent addition to her etsy shop, an amazing sterling silver pendant with turquoise and garnet.

This is a one of a kind sterling silver, turquoise, and garnet free form pendant. Each stone is set in a fine silver bezel. The turquoise stone is dramatic by itself, paired with the garnet it is very striking. To further bring out the colors I patinaed the inside of the piece while the outside frame is highly polished bright silver. The whole piece is finished off with an 18" sterling silver box chain. I showed a picture of the back of the piece so that you could see the bail was designed to accomidate many different types of chains.

The pendent itself is about 2" long and is about 1 1/4" wide and the widest point.
